Description
Kaizen focuses on the principles and methods of daily continuous improvement and builds the foundation for implementing Lean principles in the organization. Kaizen events are organized as a continuous search for immediate opportunities to make processes better. Kaizen uses problem-solving tools and practices to achieve these goals.
This course focuses on Kaizen. It introduces key Kaizen concepts and types of events. The course outlines the requirements for an effective Kaizen event and describes the benefits that a successful Kaizen event can offer for municipal organizations. It also introduces problem-solving tools including the Five Whys, Root Cause Analysis, Fishbone Diagram, and the Pareto Principle.

- Identify the three segments of an improvement opportunity
- Identify the different types of Kaizen event
- Identify the characteristics and components of Kaizen events
- Identify the benefits of using Lean tools and problem-solving processes
- Conduct root cause analysis
- Create cause and effect diagrams for a specific problem
- Conduct a Five Why exercise to establish the root cause of a specific problem
- Apply the Pareto Principal to a specific problem
