Description

This course presents the use of Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) and A3 as structured improvement methods for municipal organizations. It introduces these frameworks and presents examples of their application in implementing change, solving problems, and continuously improving processes.

Gemba, or waste walking, is introduced as a method for effective data collection and waste identification.

Objectives

  • Identify the components of the PDCA cycle and the correct activities undertaken at each stage
  • Define A3 and outline how it works with PDCA in a municipal environment
  • Identify the A3 process steps
  • Develop a problem statement for a specific challenge
  • Establish relevant questions that can be used to form an effective problem/opportunity statement
  • Identify the steps for data collection
  • Define Gemba and waste walking
  • Identify potential opportunities for waste reduction in a municipal setting
